The Thin Prep method was developed to clear mucous and debris from the material won with the pap smear. This helps the pathologist in reading the pap smear correctly. The pap smear is performed in the same manner as the conventional method, only the brush used is placed in a special fluid for conservation instead of being rolled out on a microscope slide.
