Like the guaic test or hemoccult test, the immunologic colon cancer screening looks for blood in a stool sample.

There are a few advantages to the immunologic test:

• Simplicity – one test sample instead of three
• Fewer false po­si­tive tests, no special diet necessary before testing
• Higher accuracy

Colon cancer is potentially curable if caught early. Therefore it makes sense to screen for colon cancer regularly. If a test is po­si­tive, a referral is made to a gastroenterologist for further testing and if deemed necessary for colonoscopy.
